Publishing with us

Milne Open Textbooks will accept new proposals to be reviewed starting in August 2025.

As you prepare your proposal, we recommend a few preparations that will inform your project and help you along the way:

• Review what open licensing means
• Review this text on open textbook publishing to see what is involved.
• Research what open texts have already been written in your field:
  • Open Textbook Library
  • OASIS search
  • OER Commons
• Reach out to colleagues to collaborate, either as reviewers, or co-authors

What we do:

• Guide you through the publishing process.
• Provide tools & a platform for creating a textbook if you desire.
• Conduct a peer review of your text.
• Connect you to shared community resources for faculty mentors & volunteer editing.
• Produce online and print versions of your text.
• Distribute your text on Milne Open Textbooks and list it in other popular repositories.

How to propose a project:

We recommend scheduling a consultation by emailing us at ost@geneseo.edu or browna@geneseo.edu, to discuss our publishing program. This is not required, although can be helpful. The next step is to submit a full project proposal that will be evaluated by our Editorial Team. The Team meets monthly during the academic year, and we strive to respond to submissions within 2 months (the summer being the exception).
